4 Year Kindergarten

Overview of 4 Year Kindergarten

As you follow your four year olds progress this year, you will be thrilled to see their progress in reading, writing, and numbers. Their level of performance changes quickly as they acquire new skills. They will be walking through thematic units that will enhance their awareness of different ethnic backgrounds and geographic locations through multi-cultural experiences. They will broaden their insight in science and nature through hands-on science projects and field trips and extend their knowledge of health and manners by being exposed to community helpers and etiquette. Learning centers are incorporated in the classrooms to reinforce their learning experiences and to increase their desire to learn.

Every day will be a fun learning experience for your child. Students will enjoy familiar stories from the Old and New Testament. They will learn how to apply Biblical truths which will provide a firm foundation for their daily lives.

Phonics and Reading

Our approach to the teaching of reading is a simple phonetic system combined with reading texts that are interesting, challenging, and geared to the development of Christian character. Skills are enhanced by using structured group games. Each teacher adds her personal flair of creativity to maximize the learning process of every student.

The purpose of art for the four year old is to strengthen the students fine motor skills and creativity. Crayon drawings, collages, cutting and pasting various shapes, as well as a variety of craft activities offer a multiplicity of preschool art experiences. In addition to art in the classroom, students will have the opportunity to expand their creativity in a fully equipped art room. All of their creations are expressed to the fullest with the assistance of a professional art instructor. All projects are special when complete, yet it is the process that is more important than the product in this early stage of development.

The purpose of music is to acquaint the student with a wide variety of songs through classroom participation and memorization. As the children become familiar with various melodies, they are enriched in mind, spirit, and character. Every week the children are introduced to their own feelings for music and rhythm through movement and hands-on experiences with rhythm instruments.

The main objective for the preschool computer classes is to familiarize the students with the terms, proper care, and use of the computer. Students are introduced to each part of the computer and taught to respect and enjoy it, while learning not to fear or be intimidated by technology. Grade level appropriate educational software is utilized in every period to enhance the academic curriculum used in the classroom.

The 4K curriculum builds on the 3K program. Students continue practicing the skills and rules necessary to properly care for and use the computer. However, the process is accelerated and the software is more academically oriented in order to meet their increased abilities and educational needs.

Half Day or Full Day

We ask that all students be dropped off, and all parents separate from their children, no later than 8:00 a.m. as each class begins their routine at that time. Students that are half day are picked up at 11:30 a.m. while full day students prepare for lunch. Full day students nap during the afternoon and are then picked up at 3:00 p.m.
